DCSC's first Grid project, Grid.dk, reports its first findings on why and how Danish academia should go about connecting its HPC resources

The analysis, "Grids and Clouds in Scientific Computing" is about "gridifying" DCSC. Focus is on learning from others and analyzing needed action. Grid.dk is commissioned to implement the specific task of aggregating DCSC's "pool of free resources" (10% of DCSC's HPC capacity).

The analysis and conclusions will be presented to the DCSC board 23 January 2009.

Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation sets the overhead rate for DCSC grants to 11%

DCSC grant holder's research institutions are allowed to deduct up to 11% from any DCSC grant, as an institution overhead. The figure is set by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation and derives from a mixture of factors. The general university overhead rate is in 2008 raised from 20% to 35%. However, DCSC funds originate from the Finance Bill as well as from a substantial Research Infrastructure Grant (http://www.dcsc.dk/news_current.html#2007-12-14). Overheads are not deductable from Research Infrastructure Grants. Furthermore, the Finance Ministry is of the conviction that all DCSC funding is of an infrastructure type, and hence should not be subject to overheads. The overhead rate for 2009 and onwards will be discussed with the ministries during autumn 2008.
